“In my heart I know you didn’t come here just for me, you came here because you believe in what this country can be. In the face of war, you believe there can be peace. In the face of despair, you believe there can be hope. In the face of a politics that’s shut you out, that’s told you to settle, that’s divided us for too long, you believe we can be one people, reaching for what’s possible, building that more perfect union.”

“It’s the answer that led those who’ve been told for so long by so many to be cynical and fearful and doubtful about what we can achieve to put their hands on the arc of history and bend it once more toward the hope of a better day.”

– my president

11/05 9:22am EDIT: Nothing I could say would be enough. It’s not just that he’s a Democrat, or that he’s black and young and inspiring. It’s not just that I agree with his policies. It’s that for the first time in almost 10 years, it actually feels like optimism won. My generation has grown up in an era clouded with cynicism and doubt—particularly towards our government—and the idea that that might be changing… There is so much at stake. No matter how much he does or does not live up to our expectations over the next 4 (to 8) years, Obama is not just the president-elect; he’s a symbol of the end of this reign of cynicism and the beginning of a new one of hope, trust, and possibility. We believed, and it came true.
