Georgetown College loves Ben Folds

Saturday was pretty amazing. We had our last event for the NNL initiative and ended up raising over $1000—no thanks to me. I stuck around just long enough to sell some raffle tickets—wiles were heavily employed—and then bailed early to get ready for the concert. I was a little late meeting Josh at the Old Spaghetti Factory, but most of his friends were even later, and I looked smokin hot in my little black dress and hooker heels, so was easily forgiven. Sadly, my hotness was not enough to get us a table right away or speed service along.

Our waiter—in addition to having made some questionable facial-hair choices—was extremely slow. I knew we were running a little short on time, so I asked him to bring our bills with the entrees. The bills didn’t arrive with the entrees—in fact, they didn’t arrive until several minutes after we’d finished the entrees and had commenced bitching about the waiter. Several minutes that could have been spent consuming free ice cream! It occurred to me that the waiter was being spiteful and making us wait because I’d asked him to be snappy with the bills (of course I didn’t say it like that). It also occurred to me that he was feeling insecure about his facial hair (if he wasn’t, he should have been) and taking it out on us. Either way, eventually we got our checks, undertipped Questionable Facial Hair Choice Charlie, and then FLEW down Main Street and into Whitney Hall. We made it to our seats well in advance of the light-flicker warning and were congratulating ourselves on our speedy transition when we looked at the programs and realized Ben wasn’t coming on stage until after the intermission—half an hour later. Fuck.

Eventually intermission came and went, and then Mr. Folds took the stage with Zak and Sara—one of my favorite songs and really really cool with a full orchestra. The rest of the concert was great, and Ben—though noticeably subdued and not as chatty—rocked the bitch.

EDIT: For the curious, the setlist: 1. Zak and Sara, 2. Smoke, 3. All U Can Eat, 4. Effington, 5. Landed, 6. Jesusland, 7. Brick, 8. Ascent of Stan, 9. Gracie (such a sweet song and made really awesome with the orchestra), 10. Fred Jones pt. II (soooo good), 11. Not The Same (with audience participation!), 12. Steven’s Last Night In Town, 13. One Down – solo, 14. Narcolepsy, encore: The Luckiest.
