The countdown has begun in earnest, and in fewer than 60 days, Trenton and I will be residents of Nederland. I haven’t truly allowed myself to absorb that information and luckily there are plenty of details to keep track of and plans to make distracting me from feeling the feelings that I know will come eventually. I’m about halfway through my last week of work at Actors Theatre, and I imagine it’s about to get real real.

A bit about GEZELLIG. All the websites claim that gezellig is this indecipherable, untranslatable Dutch word meaning something akin to “cozy.” From how I’ve heard it used, it means something closer to “nourishing.” Nourishing of mind, body, spirit. A nice day can be gezellig. A friend can be gezellig. Food for the soul kind of stuff. All are in agreement that the notion of gezellig is undeniably Dutch.

So here is where I’ll describe all the mis/adventures of a Kentucky girl living in Amsterdam.
