Finley doesn’t know about Pandora and when we showed up to his house for Ultra Cute Movie Night, he was wearing a pair of white short-shorts WELL above the knee. The first cute movie night was a raving success and we had a blast. We watched an old movie starring a young Art Garfunkel, drank some beer, and met some interesting people. Trenton and I have started attending Cute Movie Nights fairly regularly, but the Ultra Cute movie night was particularly memorable, shorts notwithstanding.
Finley and his brother Noel live in two different states, but occasionally get together to make some unusual art. Noel went to art school and specialized in screen-printing. He makes comic books and they both make mixtapes full of power electronics (“We produce exquisite and extraordinary works of music and art whose comprehension will violently challenge the fragile core of a naked soul.”) I can’t describe it; you’ll have to look it up. Finley and Noel honored us with a live performance of some pieces they were about to commit to tape. There was a string of christmas lights hanging from the ceiling, a single snare drum with the snares removed, a microphone, an electric guitar, and myriad pieces of effects equipment. This plus Noel, Finley, and a smattering of fans at varying levels of not-quite-sure-what-to-expectedness. I fired off some discrete pictures on the Holga without a flash, and I’m anxious to see how/if they turned out.
Going to Finley’s house is one of the many story-worthy things that’s happened to me in the last few weeks that I’ve neglected to commit to the internets. I’ve been remiss in posting and it’s time to clear out the pipes again. Life has been good, mostly, but very busy.
My year-long term of AmeriCorps service is coming to an end in mid-September and it’s shocking to me that the time has passed so quickly. I’m searching for my next step, and once again it seems autumn will represent another turning of the page.
Trenton has finished with school and started an exciting new project for the Chamber of Commerce, called Try It Local. It’s a daily-deal website, similar to existing services like Groupon & Living Social, but with the distinction of being backed by Greater Louisville, Inc. They’ve had some great bargains so far and it looks like it’s going to be a huge success. That’s what we’re hoping anyway, especially given the late hours Trenton has had to work lately.
We’re planning a vacation to Seattle, looking for houses, and generally just trying to stay afloat keep our eyes several months down the road. The future…
